The Team You Will Join:
The Group Benefits (GB) organization is responsible for the strategic direction, growth and management of MetLife's industry leading U.S. employee benefits business. Our sales force works directly with customers or through brokers, exchanges, and other third parties to distribute our broad range of products and services. GB Sales sells a broad portfolio of insurance solutions to employers and other eligible groups helping to make MetLife the largest provider of group employee benefits in the United States.
The Role:
The Regional Vice President (RVP) position exists to provide senior leadership to the sales organization in the 2-4,999 lives marketplace. This position is responsible for leading the profitable growth of this business using a broad portfolio of products including Life, Dental, Disability, Worksite and Voluntary. It is accountable for driving sales premiums, fees, earnings, persistency & marketing to existing customers, as well as new clients. As one of 6 RVP's, the incumbent will lead a defined sales region and be responsible for maximizing sales opportunities across all market segments while leveraging the availability of a vast brokerage community that serves this marketplace. This leader will transform and manage this business in an every changing competitive landscape and be charged with building a team for success. They are responsible for managing 6 direct reports with a total team of 45 and significant P&L responsibility. This leader will have significant visibility and drive outcomes by influencing internal partners, sales associates, and the external market community. The development of people and relationships is of paramount importance to the overall success of this position.
Reporting directly to the SVP, Regional Market Sales, this position will partner with Service, Operations, Marketing, Finance, HR, Compliance, Products and Underwriting to deliver results. This role will directly impact accelerating profitable growth and optimizing shareholder value for MetLife. The position will have primary P&L responsibility for the Regional Market in his/her designated territory.
Our business plan assumes significant growth in the Regional Market as a result of the GB key strategies: 1) Invest to capture material share in the Regional Market and 2) Invest to become a significant Voluntary/Worksite player. The successful candidate will be responsible for the profitable growth of Regional Market and build a sales strategy to drive the organization to meet and exceed that growth to capture market share.

Direct Reports: 4 Regional Directors, 1 Regional Consultant, 1 Executive Assistant
Other Key Stakeholders: Account Executives, Sales Representatives, Sales Desk, Service & Implementation leadership, Underwriting & Product
How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future:

  • Align strategies with other RVPs, the service and product organizations, marketing, underwriting and finance groups to achieve the proper balance between sales growth and earnings growth within marketplace earnings targets

• Recruit, motivate, develop and retain a diverse sales leadership and sales professional organization within an ever-changing marketplace. Ensure ongoing growth and development of team and organizational bench strength. Conduct training and monitor compliance

  • Develop, implement and monitor strategic business plan focused on developing maximum efficiency from sales resources while achieving appropriate ROI
  • Drive new sales and renewals of group and voluntary products in the under 5,000 marketplace, by developing and managing a professional sales force
  • Maintain strong marketplace presence and relationships with key decision makers and brokers, and support a customer centric environment
  • Drive cultural alignment to sales strategies such as customer and broker segmentation
  • Reinforce the MetLife value proposition in market while growing customer and broker relationships


What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):

  • 15 years of relevant experience, ideally including group insurance background
  • Strong relationship management capabilities in support of Customer/Broker Consultant relationships, etc.
  • Strong business acumen, proven ability to act strategically, make decisions, and build partnerships and teams
  • Presence with external network as industry expert / thought leader
  • 5 - 8 years of experience in Sales Leadership developing and coaching a strong sales organization
  • Proven record of strong revenue & earnings results
  • Financial experience - managing budget, underwriting, analyzing financial performance
  • Broad understanding of the Employee Benefit landscape in the lower & upper end of the market place
  • Strong skills and solid background in leading cultural change in an evolving environment

• BA degree and series 6,63 & 26 licenses
