The Senior Manager of Community Leadership & Transformation plays a pivotal role in shaping the evolution and growth of Reddit’s community ecosystem. We’re looking for a seasoned leader to own Reddit’s standards and practices for community leadership from end-to-end. This role is responsible for developing and furthering online community leadership excellence on Reddit: working with Reddit community managers and volunteers to develop mods as community leaders, empowering mods to lead exceptional communities, and collaborating with mods and communities to drive leadership transformation.
The ideal candidate is an experienced community leader with a proven track record of success and passion for community engagement & empowerment, leadership development, operational excellence, and change management.
Key Responsibilities
- Train the trainers: Establish best-in-class community management standards, develop and deliver onboarding and training for mod teams looking to establish or improve their current processes, and build the playbooks for scaling community management expertise across Reddit’s community ecosystem.
- Change Management: Navigate and implement changes within community management standards, contexts, or operations. Includes adapting strategies, processes, and policies to meet evolving needs, industry trends, and organizational shifts. The role involves communicating changes effectively, addressing resistance, and ensuring smooth transitions to new approaches.
- Stakeholder Management: Work closely with leadership, community teams, volunteers, and other key stakeholders to drive consistency and excellence in engagement strategies and community development.
- Evangelize Reddit Moderation: Passionately advocate for the positive impact of content moderation and community leadership on Reddit, showcasing the value and fulfillment of volunteering as a Reddit moderator to inspire eligible redditors to join mod teams of existing communities.
- Thought Leadership: Act as a champion for community leadership excellence, staying up to date with industry trends and spreading the word about innovative community practices at Reddit.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage analytics, feedback loops, and key performance metrics to continuously assess and improve community leadership development efforts.
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure all community engagement activities adhere to legal, ethical, and platform-specific guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
- 7+ years of experience in community leadership, moderation, trust & safety, or related disciplines, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in setting and enforcing community management standards across a complex, dynamic, and distributed organization.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience overseeing large volunteer or ambassador programs in addition to professional community management teams.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies, feedback systems, and performance evaluation metrics.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, managing volunteers, and working with teams with dotted-line reporting structures.
- Data-informed mindset, with proficiency in using analytics tools to measure and improve community outcomes.
- Knowledge of emerging trends in community leadership, online moderation, and digital trust & safety.
- Experience working in a large-scale, global organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience training junior community managers in advanced skills such as mediation and diplomacy.
- Proven track record in influencing executive leadership and driving community-first policies at an organizational level.
- Successful accomplishment of large-scale change management endeavors, involving paid and volunteer stakeholders.
On a typical day, you might:
- Review community engagement metrics to assess performance and identify trends.
- Conduct quality assurance audits on community management work across teams to ensure adherence to best practices.
- Train the trainers of online community managers or Reddit moderators.
- Support the resolution of escalated community issues that require strategic intervention.
- Provide feedback and coaching to community managers and dotted-line reports to support their professional development.
- Facilitate cross-functional meetings with teams such as Trust & Safety, Product, and Customer Support to align on community engagement strategies.
- Analyze and refine community management guidelines to ensure policies remain effective and scalable.
- Collaborate on training programs to enhance skill development and standardization across community teams.
- Work with leadership to advocate for community management priorities and influence decision-making.
Success in this role may be measured by:
- Percentage of teams following established community management guidelines.
- Improvement in retention of trained, net-new moderators in target communities.
- Improvements in user sentiment scores and survey feedback.
- Decrease in non-compliance incidents within community management teams.
- Growth in active and positively engaged community members in official communities.
- Number of ICs completing community management training programs.
- Number of product or policy updates influenced by community insights.

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. The base pay range for this position is:
$180,200—$252,300 USD
