Overview of the role

As Senior Manager of Talent Management, you will drive excellence in how we identify, develop, assess, and retain exceptional talent across our organization. This highly visible position leads GitLab's enterprise-wide performance and talent processes, working directly with executive leadership to shape the future of our organization.

Leading a lean team and partnering with senior stakeholders, you'll architect and execute strategies that ensure GitLab has the right talent, in the right roles, at the right time. Your work will have a direct impact on organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, and individual career growth across the company.

What You'll DoDrive Performance Excellence & Talent Strategy

  • Spearhead GitLab's performance management cycle, including Mid-Year Talent Reviews and End of Year Talent Assessments
  • Partner with executive leadership on Key Talent Reviews and Critical Talent Reviews to identify and develop high-impact talent
  • Partner in the design and execution of succession planning strategies that ensure leadership continuity
  • Lead the implementation of talent readiness technology, revolutionizing how we approach skills management and internal mobility
  • Create data-driven insights that inform executive decision-making on talent strategy

Shape Organizational Growth and Infrastructure

  • Partner alongside People Business Partners in the development and implementation of company-wide competency frameworks that define excellence across all roles
  • Influence job architecture initiatives in close partnership with Inclusion Strategy and Compensation teams
  • Pioneer organizational skills analysis and workforce capability gaps to prepare GitLab for future growth
  • Partner with Learning & Organizational Development to create innovative skilling and re-skilling programs
  • Design and implement a comprehensive leadership coaching and executive coaching strategy

Build Strategic Partnerships

  • Collaborate with People Business Partners to drive talent strategy alignment across divisions
  • Partner with DIB to ensure inclusive design principles are foundational to all talent programs
  • Work closely with Compensation to align talent frameworks with pay philosophy
  • Guide People Connect and Operations teams on talent program implementation
  • Influence executive stakeholders to drive organizational change and adoption
  • Work with People Analytics to showcase impact and inform relevant talent management decisions

What You'll BringExperience & Expertise

  • Proven track record of designing and implementing talent management programs in high-growth, global organizations
  • Demonstrated success in leading performance management and succession planning processes
  • Experience implementing talent management systems, Workday implementations, etc.
  • Strong background in competency framework development and job architecture focus areas
  • History of successful partnership with senior stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Deep understanding of organizational development and talent management best practices

Skills & Capabilities

  • Strategic thinking with ability to translate vision into actionable programs
  • Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to derive insights from talent data
  • Change management expertise and program implementation capabilities

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant work experience in HR, Business, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Professional HR certifications preferred (SHRM-SCP, HRCI, etc.) preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive talent management experience
  • 3+ years of people management experience

This role reports to the Director of Talent Management & Development and manages a lean team while influencing change across the organization.

Remote-Global

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$114,200$244,800 USD
