A Product Sr Data Engineer at Apptegy is a key member of our growing team of data experts, responsible for expanding and optimizing our data ingestion, pipeline, and identity resolution architecture. This role ensures seamless data flow and collection across cross-functional teams, enabling data-driven decision-making.

The ideal candidate is a skilled data pipeline builder and data wrangler who thrives on optimizing and building data systems from the ground up.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with Key Teams: Work alongside Software Engineers, Staff/Principal Engineers, and Business Data Engineers to develop data-driven features and maintain optimal data architecture. 
  • Optimize & Automate Processes: Identify, design, and implement internal improvements such as process automation, data delivery optimization, and scalable infrastructure enhancements.   
  • Develop Robust Data Infrastructure: Design and implement scalable data models while building and maintaining ETL pipelines for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from various sources using SQL, DBT, and Python. 
  • Support Stakeholders: Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Staff/Principal engineers to address technical data challenges and support infrastructure needs.  
  • Consult on Complex Data Needs: Occasionally collaborate with other departments to assemble large, complex datasets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong experience developing data pipelines using Python and DBT/SQL. 
  • Proven ability to design, build, and optimize scalable, reliable pipelines with deep knowledge of data modeling and transformation best practices. 
  • Hands-on experience with Airflow (or other equivalent tool) for task automation. 
  • Proficiency in developing unit and integration tests, with quality gates to ensure data accuracy and reliability in pipelines. 
  • Experience supporting and partnering with teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Bonus Skills (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL and Snowflake. 
  • Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools like CloverDX, Informatica, etc. 
  • Exposure to AWS cloud services such as EC2, RDS, Aurora Serverless,  SQS, Lambda. 
  • Proficiency in one or more other programming languages like Java, Ruby, etc. 
  • Experience with Kubernetes. 
  • Experience with Kafka or other message bus technology.
