OverviewAbout the Role

We are seeking an Android Design Engineer to play a central role in building out the next generation of Instacart's design system components and infrastructure. In this position, you will work with a high-performing, collaborative, cross-functional, and friendly team to help scale our mission of providing access to the food people love and more time to enjoy it together. You will develop mobile components, provide elegant solutions to help engineers create great experiences, and collaborate closely with designers and engineers.

About the Team

The Instacart Design Team is dedicated to making grocery shopping effortless for everyone and finding solutions to large-scale opportunities that will forever change the way people feed themselves and their loved ones. The Design System team works to create reusable components and patterns that enable feature teams to build consistent, high-quality user experiences quickly and efficiently.

About the Job

  • Develop our next version of Instacart Design System’s Android components 
  • Provide elegant, simple solutions that help engineers create great experiences at high velocity
  • Collaborate with engineering peers to design elegant and consistent component APIs
  • Focus on the details of developer experience to make using the Instacart Design System absolutely frictionless
  • Engage with designers daily to co-create the best possible components and patterns
  • Support Instacart's Android engineering team with best-in-class documentation/support 

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Android app UI development 
  • Practical knowledge and experience using Jetpack Compose
  • Effective in developing native mobile applications with accessibility in mind
  • Strong communication and written skills
  • Solid understanding of fundamental design principles and high attention to detail in UI implementation
  • An exceptionally collaborative approach towards working with design and engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Background in writing developer-oriented documentation
  • Experience working directly on a design system team
