Help us deliver industry-leading solutions which advance Microsoft's ability to manage the company's Financial Close and Controls Compliance capabilities. We are looking for a Principal Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers and managers.
Our services: You will lead teams that build and operate critical financial systems. These systems are industry-leading solutions that we continually drive innovations to reduce manual work and improve decision-making. The services in the Finance Close domain enable Microsoft to manage month, quarter, and year-end processes. The Controls Compliance domain enables Microsoft to fulfill statutory jurisdictional obligations through configurable workflow orchestration, collaborative tools, and reporting. These services span various technologies and techniques such as React, C#, Microservices, SQL, Spark, distributed computing, and AI/ML.
Your role: Your charter is to maintain service excellence while delivering innovative solutions that reduce manual work and provide meaningful insights to support decision-making. You will also look outside your assigned responsibilities to find opportunities to leverage others and help others. You will build strong teams which include PM partners and stakeholders to ensure delivery of the most impactful work.

- Leading, mentoring, and providing technical and career leadership to a team (30+) of FTE software engineers and managers.
- Foster a diverse and inclusive environment where all team members can contribute and maximize their impact to Microsoft.
- Work with senior leaders and other team members to shape vision, technical strategy, and architecture investments.
- Ensure teams honor and prioritize their security, privacy, and compliance responsibilities.
- Drive a culture of DevOps excellence.
- Learn with and lead the team in adopting relevant new technologies, tools, methods, and processes that progressively advance our services' capabilities to its stakeholders.
- Gain an understanding of Microsoft businesses and the varied processes and their outcomes and collaborate with all stakeholders to contribute to a cohesive set of capabilities built to deliver frictionless experiences.
- Collaborate effectively with other teams and disciplines and drive improvements in engineering at the organization level.
- Adhere to and drive sound software engineering practices through design reviews, system design, code reviews, and using data/telemetry to inform solutions.
Qualifications Basic qualifications:
- Must be able to write code: This position is for a Software Engineer Manager and must have a minimum requirement of 10 years of software engineering work experience. Applicants must have prior experience writing high-scale, reliable, production-quality systems.
- 5+ years of exeperience as an Agile practitioner (certified scrum master, scrum developer, scrum professional, etc.)
- 5+ years of DevOps and high scale services: experience operating highly available infrastructure and building live production APIs and services.
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience with Public Cloud solutions.
Optional skills: (Preferred but not required)
- Experience with Financial systems or FinTech industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing others in the delivery of highly scalable software solutions.
