Job Summary

The Manager of Pricing & Legal Project Management is responsible for managing various aspects of pricing and LPM within the firm, with a focus on communicating and advocating for Pricing & LPM initiatives through continuous internal outreach and training. The role also supports the development and implementation of pricing strategies, alternative fee creation, fee budget development, profitability and data reporting, profitability improvement recommendations, and the approval process for new matters. The role supports the Senior Director of Pricing and Legal Project Management and the Director of Legal Project Management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Researches market and industry trends to develop responsive Pricing and LPM recommendations and to keep partners and firm leadership abreast of potential improvements and pitfalls in the legal industry.
  • Develops and maintains database of Pricing and LPM presentations and training materials.
  • Conducts ongoing presentations, orientations, and training sessions to advance Pricing and LPM initiatives and best practices.
  • Trains and supports partners in year-end rate and fee arrangement negotiation best practices and financial targets, with a focus on strategic client negotiations.
  • Develops best practice resources for partners including engagement terms, budgets, rates, and alternative fee menus.
  • Assists partners with RFP responses, client requests, and client outreach by providing strategic pricing and LPM recommendations and budgeting backed by profitability analysis, data, and competitive intelligence.
  • Analyzes profitability metrics on a client and matter level and provides partners and practice group leaders with recommendations for improvement.
  • Liaises with Rates team to ensure successful understanding and implementation of complex pricing engagements and to maintain collaboration between the Pricing & LPM and Rates teams.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to individual partners, practice group leaders, and the Firm’s leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of numerous areas of law and their respective intricacies to allow for fluent conversation with partners to provide accurate, informed pricing and LPM guidance and budget setting assistance.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of firm and industry systems (3E, Data Insights, Lex Machina, Westlaw, Pacer, Financial Insights, SQL, and Microsoft Excel).
  • Must possess interpersonal skills, the ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the firm, from firm leadership to staff, and the ability to follow instruction effectively from both internal and external clients.
  • Ability to delegate work to others to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Experience in developing skills, knowledge, and building capacity and productivity of the team.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting and budgeting principles and the ability to analyze historical financial data, monitor budgets, and draw accurate conclusions.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload

Education

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Equivalent training and experience may substitute for education.

Experience

The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience that included direct supervision of others on a regular basis. Experience in the legal industry is preferred.

Our Firm is committed to fair and equitable compensation practice in accordance with applicable laws. The pay range for this position is $115,000 - $175,000. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus. The salary for this position may vary based on location, market data, an applicant’s skills and prior experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other factors.
