We are hiring a Makeup & Special Effects Artist to deliver high-quality makeup, prosthetics, and special effects looks for film, television, and live event productions. This is a creative and technically demanding role that requires equal parts artistry and precision to bring characters and concepts to life.
The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio spanning beauty, character, and SFX makeup, and the professionalism and adaptability to thrive in fast-paced production environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Apply beauty, editorial, character, prosthetic, and special effects makeup for film, TV, commercial, and live event productions
• Collaborate with directors, costume designers, and production teams during pre-production to develop character looks and SFX concepts
• Create and maintain detailed continuity records and makeup bibles for multi-day productions
• Source and manage makeup kit supplies and SFX materials within production budget parameters
• Perform skin preparation, color matching, aging techniques, injury simulation, and creature makeup as required by scripts
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary makeup station compliant with set safety and health standards
• Mentor junior makeup artists and set PAs on techniques and on-set best practices
Requirements
• California Cosmetology or Esthetician license (or equivalent)
• 4+ years of professional makeup artistry experience, including SFX or character work
• Strong portfolio demonstrating range across beauty, editorial, prosthetic, and special effects looks
• Familiarity with a broad range of products, materials, and application techniques
• Ability to work long hours, weekends, and irregular production schedules
Preferred Qualifications
• Formal training in prosthetics fabrication or advanced SFX techniques
• IATSE union membership or eligibility
• Experience on union film or television productions
