Position: Lead Consultant, US Operational Risk Management - Group Benefits
Job Location: 200 Park Ave, New York, NY; Bridgewater, NJ

Department:
The US Risk Management team is aligned with US businesses to proactively advise on management of risks from our products, services, and business operations. Supporting all US Lines of Businesses, the US Operational Risk Management (ORM) team partners with business and functional leadership to ensure effective risk management and controls are embedded in day-to-day operations as well as in strategic and transformational initiatives.
The Role :
The Operational Risk Management Lead Consultant will execute the ORM risk function by overseeing implementation of MetLife's Non-Financial Risk management framework for the Group Benefits business, collaborating across Global Risk Management and engaging business and functional leadership to maintain an ongoing view of operational risk for the business, escalate potential concerns, and drive risk mitigation activities.
This position will play a key role in establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships, while implementing an ongoing operating model to proactively identify, monitor and manage operational risks in support of business strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Governance

  • Provide guidance to the business to drive strong risk governance
  • Ensure effective visibility into risk event / issue trends, risk self-assessments, and remediation activities


Business Partnership and Advisory

  • Build and maintain strategic dialogue with business / functional leadership to provide ongoing risk insight
  • Proactively identify emerging operational risks or vulnerabilities as strategic partner and advisor
  • Design and enable risk mitigation programs, in collaboration with businesses and control functions
  • In collaboration with businesses and control functions, designs and develops analytics and establishes risk tolerance levels, in support of the business' strategic plan.
  • Drive consistency in support of ORM engagement / coverage model
  • Foster a strong risk management culture, including leading training and communication


Operationalize the Risk Framework

  • Implement tools and processes to enable self-identification and risk measurement
  • Drive discussions that inform decision-making considering risk/reward
  • Ensure risks are managed, monitored and reported relative to risk appetite
  • Assist in design and development of KPI/KRIs for tracking operational risk exposure

Key Stakeholders: VP Head of US Operational Risk Management and Group Benefits Chief Risk Officer, Group Benefits Compliance, Group Benefits line of business management, Legal.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of life insurance industry, regulation, risk management framework(s)
  • 10+ years' experience in a risk/control, business, operations, or technology role
  • Strong risk and control mindset, with ability to articulate independent risk view
  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior business and functional stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate and influence

The wage range for applicants for this position is $103,000 to $130,000. This role is also
eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a
comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life
insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid
time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
