About the Role

This Insights Manager will sit within the Retail Insights team and partner closely with multiple cross-functional teams to drive both Retailer and Category growth. This is a generalist role focused on leveraging internal and external 3rd-party data to influence internal business decision making, conduct market intelligence, and unlock growth across a set of Instacart’s most strategic partnerships and categories.

You will strive to understand the dynamics of the marketplace through descriptive analysis, tackle ambiguous problems, and provide internal teams with the tools to answer “how did the business perform?”, “why did it perform that way?”, and "how can we improve performance?" You will be a subject matter expert on macro business, operational, and customer trends. This role is a hybrid of external client-facing and internal-facing responsibilities.

About the Team

Instacart’s Customer Insights Team sits within the Commercial Excellence org, at the intersection of Instacart’s unparalleled industry data, our most important grocery and non-grocery retail partnerships, and vast CPG category data.

About The Job

  • Leverage data and analytics to gain a deep understanding of our business, uncover short and long-term trends, and help drive critical business decision-making for a set of key retailers and CPG categories
  • Partner with our Business Development Retail team to craft business cases to sell-in additional Instacart products and offerings and conduct quarterly business reviews
  • Partner with our Category Leadership team to decompose CPG category performance, build executive reporting and core dashboard infrastructure, and unlock internal business cases
  • Tell stories with data; ability to immerse yourself in Instacart’s vast database, pull together the relevant datasets using SQL, conduct analysis on the data to extract the key insights, and then assemble those insights into a compelling narrative and communicate it effectively to key internal stakeholders
  • Conduct deep dive analysis that uncover the root cause of issues, or to unearth insights that can help our partners grow or improve their business
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally

About You

  • 3+ years work experience in a quantitative business strategy role. This is a great opportunity for those with experience in Consulting, Banking, Analytics, or similar roles. Experience with retail and e-commerce a plus
  • Proficient SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools experience required. Ability to write complex, efficient, and eloquent SQL queries to extract data.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to logically reason through a complex problem step by step and identify pitfalls
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity; a self-starter with the ability to quickly respond to problems independently, consider all stakeholder needs, and answer the “so what” questions
  • Polished communication skills and ability to manage a number of senior stakeholder relationships, both internal and external
